a_Children_entreprenuer.fw_2.fwCareer and Technical Education

Graduates today are entering a highly competitive workforce based on a global knowledge and information economy. To be career and college ready, graduates need to be able to integrate and apply 21st century skills, technical knowledge and skills, and core academic knowledge. With an emphasis on real world, real life skills, career and technical education connects students to academics and training that will help them be successful in the future.

Region 2000 Career Pathways

Employers can use the Region 2000 career pathway information to identify school systems within the region that offer training in the skills sets needed in the workplace. This information will be updated on an annual basis so that employers, educators and workforce development professionals can identify strengths and potential gaps in the emerging workforce.  Most importantly, this information serves as a foundation for decision-making and investment in key workforce training areas to ensure that the educational system is preparing workers for employers in Region 2000.  Additionally, there is contact information for employers to speak directly with the Career and Technical Program staff to provide input and make arrangements to interview students for internships or employment.

Parents, Educators and Students can use career clusters to investigate a wide range of career choices. Clusters make it easier for students to understand the relevance of their required courses and help them select their elective courses more wisely. As an organizing tool for curriculum design and instruction, Career Clusters provide the essential knowledge and skills for the 16 Career Clusters and their Career Pathways. It also functions as a useful guide in developing programs of study bridging secondary and post-secondary curriculum and for creating individual student plans of study for a complete range of career options. As such, it helps students discover their interests and their passions, and empowers them to choose the educational pathway that can lead to success in high school, college and career.

Using the Region 2000 Career Pathways Tool

This Region 2000 Career Pathways website provides access to a comprehensive list of all Career and Technical Education courses offered within each school division as well as the grade level the classes are available.   Following are helpful tips for navigating the website:

  • The grey Contacts box (below) is a directory of Career and Technical Education Directors, by school system, within Region 2000 and their contact information.  Call for questions, input or to interview students.
  • Clicking on the links under the Career Clusters section (below) will take you to the specified Career Cluster that lists the specific courses offered within each school system.
  • The Course Code (highlighted in blue) is a hyperlink that will take you to the VERSO database that provides specific skills/competencies that are covered in each class as well as any related industry certifications.
  • The numbers beneath each school system heading represent the grade levels at which the courses are available.
  • The number beneath the Fall/Spring Enrollment indicate the number of students enrolled in each course by school district. (This number will be updated each fall and spring when numbers are received from the school systems.)
